Questions worth asking before you pay.
I record my own videos with this, so these are the questions I would want answered first, including the ones where the answer is a limitation.
Does it work with my camera, OBS or Zoom?
Mirrento is a teleprompter, not a capture tool. It runs in its own window on your Mac while you record with whatever you already use: the built-in camera, a mirrorless over HDMI, OBS, Zoom, Riverside, Loom. It does not sit in your video path, so there is nothing to break in your existing setup and nothing to reconfigure when you change it.
What happens if I go off script or ad-lib?
The scroll follows your voice rather than a clock, so wandering off the text is the normal case, not a failure. Improvise a sentence and the text waits. Come back to the wording and it picks up where you are. That is the whole reason it exists: a fixed-speed scroll punishes you for not reading exactly what is written, which is the opposite of sounding natural.
Does it need an internet connection?
The prompter itself does not. Speech recognition runs through macOS's own Speech framework. Note that for some languages macOS downloads an on-device model, and when that model is not installed for your locale it can fall back to Apple's servers; that is a macOS behaviour, not something Mirrento sends anywhere of its own. Licence checks reach Lemon Squeezy roughly once a day, and there is a grace period so a flight or a dead router does not lock you out.
Will it follow my accent?
It uses the same recogniser macOS uses for dictation, so if dictation understands you, Mirrento generally will. Accents are usually fine. Where it struggles is heavy background noise, two people talking at once, and long stretches with no speech at all. If dictation on your Mac already has trouble with your voice, try it inside the trial before paying rather than taking my word for it.
What if the tracking loses me mid-sentence?
It happens, most often after a long pause or a jump backwards in the script. The scroll stops rather than running away from you, and you can nudge it manually and keep going. It is worth knowing this before you buy: this is a tool that removes most of the pace problem, not one that removes every one of them.
What happens after the 7 days?
The app keeps your scripts and settings and stops running the prompter until you enter a licence key. Nothing is deleted, and there is no countdown pressure inside the recording view. If you buy, you paste the key once and the app remembers it.
Can I cancel?
Yes, from the Lemon Squeezy receipt in your inbox, without asking me. There is also a lifetime option if a monthly subscription for a tool you use twice a week is not how you want to buy software.
Is it Mac only?
Yes. It uses Apple's speech recognition and macOS window behaviour directly, and doing that well on one platform is why the voice tracking works at all. There is no Windows or iPad version, and I would rather say so plainly than keep you waiting for one.
Will it slow my Mac down while I record?
Speech recognition is the only continuous cost and it is the same engine dictation uses. It runs comfortably alongside OBS or Zoom on an Apple Silicon Mac. If you are recording 4K while running a heavy edit in the background, that is where you would feel it, as you would with anything else.
Do I need a beam splitter or prompter hardware?
No, and for most solo creators buying one is the wrong order of spending. Putting the text directly under your lens and sitting further back solves most of the eye-contact problem for nothing. Hardware helps when you are reading a lot of text very close to camera, which is not where most solo work sits.
Still deciding?
The honest test is your own voice on your own Mac, not a feature list. The 7-day trial is enough to record the same two minutes twice, once fighting a fixed scroll and once not, and hear whether your delivery changes.
